Commission-Stealing

There has been some controversy over hoplinks because of commission-stealing. Here’s the thing: a savvy customer who doesn’t want any affiliates making money off of them can remove the affiliate’s name in the link and go right over to ClickBank and buy the product. And you miss out on your commission.

To get around this, ClickBank has some HTML tools you can use for free.
You can also try using an ‘onMouseOver’ script in your affiliate links. This means that only the text of your choosing can be seen in the status bar when someone moves their cursor over your link.

For example, instead of something like: http://www.sitstayfetch.com/index.htm/?top-cat, the user will see something of your choosing, say, just ‘SitStayFetch’.
Just do a Google search on ‘onMouseOver’ script and you will easily find a script you can use.

This isn’t entirely dependable, however. A user can still see the link coding on a right-click disabled page. All they need to do is use “View Source” and look at the HTML page source.

The only real solution to this problem is Affiliate Link Cloaker. Affiliate Link Cloaker is a product that works by ‘cloaking’ your affiliate number so that it looks like a part of your web address.
