I’ve talked about the importance of giving away free stuff, and how it has to be something that someone sees value in. But up to now, I’ve talked about it as an inducement to go to the site.

Now, I want to talk about using it to make the sale happen. How many times have you seen ads that promise you: “…and if you ACT NOW and order by September 15th, I’ll throw in these 3 Special Bonus Reports, each one 10 pages long—a $39.95 value—for FREE! The first Special Bonus Report is ‘How to Get 6-Pack Abs in 20 Days’, the second Special Bonus Reports is ‘20 Pick-up Lines That Really Work’, and the third is ‘Beefier Biceps in 30 Days’”
Why do you see verbiage like that all the time? Because it works!

Let’s analyze what’s going on here. These reports are all on hot topics, so they have mass appeal. You’ve been told the topics and that each one offers unique benefits, so you know there is some value there. Then, to further hype these bonuses, notice that they are referred to in capital letters and displayed in a professional-looking way.
Now you’ve built a perception of value.

Another thing that’s happening is that you’ve created a sense of urgency by telling the reader to “Buy Now”, and you have reinforced that by giving them a hard deadline of “Three Days”. So now you’ve really sweetened the pot. If they’re trying decide whether or not to buy, you can push them over the edge by throwing in giveaways and bonuses.

The easiest things to give away are free downloads such as ebooks, special bonus reports, tip sheets, newsletters, ezines, or collections of short articles (“The Best of…”).

If you don’t feel competent writing these things yourself, you can get them done by a copywriter, just Google search “elance….”.

Of course, it’s best if the free giveaway or download relates in some way to whatever it is you’re selling. A free report on the best anti-aging supplements is not going to be valued much by young men who are buying your “How to Pick up Hot Chicks” ebook.

If you are not selling information, and are in fact shipping physical product, then throw in some small, lightweight freebie. People love to get freebies.
